Why your health and fitness should never be ‘quick and easy fix’

One of the biggest things I hear so often from clients is I want the quick fix, well I hate to tell you their is no quick fix. Unfortunately being fit, healthy and in the best shape for you requires a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment. You need to find something that you enjoy doing everyday and it will make your journey that little bit easier and more rewarding. If you dread getting up and don't enjoy it once your there you need to find a new sport.

I have been on my health and fitness journey since I was at school, playing AFL, skate boarding for hours a day and by the time I was 18 I had grown a passion for body building and weightlifting. Pretty typical for my age bracket I used to think, I loved going to the gym, doing a session with my mates seeing my body change as the months passed. I was always the skinny kid at school about 60kgs and not much size to me. When I found how weightlifting could change my body, improve my strength and fitness I had found a sport that I wanted to do 6 days a week without fail. I went to work, gym & home everyday, boring I know but I loved it and I still do. In 2010 I was introduced to CrossFit by a good mate and my former business partner, he told me everything he had been doing and basically the competitive side had kicked in and I was ready to give it a go. Six years has passed with training every other day. I love training most days, but even with a passion for fitness sometimes you have big days, you are buggered and just want to head to bed, but I am one of those people that kept to a routine and continually consistent with my training.

I am continually setting small and large goals for myself, focusing between CrossFit and Weightlifting depending on whether I am competing for AWF at a Nationals Level or getting ready for the CrossFit Open each year.

I have new strength goals this year a 150kg clean & Jerk, Snatch 120kg, 180kg Front Squat and a 200kg Back squat, I have my goals and everyday I train I know I am getting one step closer. Now I have been training for more then 15 years I have more fun with my training I do things I love, design new programs to see the benefits and working on my current program ‘Squat Everyday - yep even when I don't want to’. I have been squatting everyday for 147 days. If you want it you got to go get it, I hate to tell you, all those people that are lean, ripped and strong - work hard and eat well everyday.

If you are committed you will get there but you need to find something you love ‘CrossFit & Olympic Lifting are my Passion’ I will still be squatting in another 40 years I hope.

Here are some photos along my journey since I was 20, from 65kg and not much strength to 90kg, leaner and stronger then I could have ever imagined and all because I have worked for it everyday, eating towards my goals and challenging myself continually. Make sure you celebrate your little wins, when you reach a goal, if you don't have a goal your never going to reach it so set them with a coach today and become what you want to be, your the only one standing between you and who you want to be.
