Which is more important - Training or Nutrition?
The short answer is that neither are more important than the other.
For the beginner athlete you will get fast results no matter what you do if you are following a safe training program. However, tweaks in your daily eating plan need to be set in place early for constant improvement. You will see huge results quickly by following the basics for a good eating plan. e.g.: Increase your meals to 5-6 times per day. Cut out refined sugars, processed carbohydrates and processed fats. We want good fats like omega 3 found in fish, avocado and good carbs in unrefined foods like fruit and vegetables. Make sure your getting your protein in as well with egg whites, chicken breast, other lean meats or you can supp if vegetarian.
Once you have your diet dialled in and your seeing your results shine through we can take a more considered approach to your specific program. CrossFit we constantly vary the workouts but even still some of the elements can be repeated and need to be changed up from time to time.
One saying that remains true is that “you can’t out-train a bad diet.”
Once you have seen the results of what a balanced eating plan can do for you and you have settled into a routine, a “cheat meal” EG: McDonalds will leave you feeling really lousy and not motivated to train. If you haven’t started a meal plan yet, there is a good chance you feel like that now but don’t know the difference.
So in my opinion the best approach to training is to start with your diet and stay active. Some programs will yield specific results but if what you are chasing is a General Physical Preparedness or just well rounded fitness, CrossFit is my recommendation. Its almost too much fun to be a workout.
