INTERN COACH - ETHAN BAKER
Tell us a little about yourself - what you do, family hobbies outside crossfit, nicknames etc
My name’s Ethan, ethy bakes, ethos or eth depending on the friend/individual. Haha
I work as a barista for a friend’s cafe five days of the week. If I’m not at work or at the box ( my favourite place) I’m quite a movie guy, a big fan of marvel and follow the tennis all months of the year. Roger federer is my all time favourite athlete!
How long have you been doing crossfit and why did you start?
Have been doing CrossFit for just over a year and a half now and it’s been a hell of a ride. I had been gyming regularly for many years starting from early teens and always liked it. Was always interested and hungry to get better and learn more. But eventually I got sick of not seeing any results and just “gym” culture in general. I looked into CrossFit for a long time before I tried it and decided it was the best thing for me to try. I was right. I absolutely love it and hope to be able to keep doing it till I’m a very old man.
Tell us what a general day in your life looks like.
A regular day for me starts pretty early in the morning with the same breakfast almost everyday. I’m a creature of habit. At work from early morning pouring and drinking coffee (something I’m a huge fan of) and then at the box every afternoon. Gettin’ my fit on.
What is the reason you want to coach people crossfit?
The biggest reason I want to coach people is because I know how much Crossfit can do for them. How much it can change they’re lives for the better and the drive it can give you to keep healthy and fit for the long term. I’ve seen it in myself, my family and friends.
Why do you think you will make a great coach?
I think I can make a good coach because I really believe in the purpose, the community and culture of CrossFit. I want to see others changed for the better and do things they didn’t think they could ever do. Knowing I can play a part in someone’s journey to living longer, being fitter and healthier is such an accomplishing thought.
What is the best advice you have every recieved?
I don’t know if ever been specifically given this advice but I think finding mentors in life to look up to is important. As equally important is carefully choosing who they are. Always be learning and learning from mistakes.
What would you say to anyone starting crossfit?
There are three things I can think of that everyone should or at least wants to take care of. Your family, your friends and yourself. Crossfit is one of the best ways in the world you can take of yourself. And look good doing it.
Whats you favorite movement?
Tough one. I like most movements that are on the rig. Pull ups and BMU’s would be firm favourites.
Whats your favorite meal?
A huge seafood dinner would be my favourite meal.
Tell us something we wouldnt know about you
I seem to know a fair bit about movies and actors but I have a weird skill where I remember what year movies were released. It’s very strange. Couldn’t tell you why.
Give us your favorite quote/mantra to live by.
I think the best mantra to live by is whatever you do, do it well. I don’t ever want to be doing something just to be average at it. I want to be good, great or better.
